With
one of the highest violent crime rates in the country, Maryland is home
to some of Americas most dangerous women. And the state has only one
prison for all of its female offenders the Maryland Correctional
Institution for Women, or MCIW, in Jessup. Here, every type of criminal
is mixed in together, from petty dealers to cold-blooded killers. Many
of these women are on edge, and controlling them can prove a dauntingly
dangerous task. In Female Felons, the inmates we meet include a young
lifer, a mother-to-be, and a recovering crack addict with serious anger
issues. They each have their own path and story, but they all
illustrate the challenges of women behind bars.
